The world is out there folks! so get off your collective butts and get out there.
I remember hiking through the villages of Cinque Terre in Northern Italy and sweating my heart out! HA! I Felt so Alive. It was exhilarating, exciting and adventurous, even after the 80 – odd year old man in the running shorts and no shirt sprinted past us on the narrow trail.
The newest movement in fitness is ironically outside! Al fresco.Get the body of your dreams by getting outside!
Rastas in Jamaica extol the benefits of natural living and being in peak physical health. So too have other people including French physical educator and sailor Georges Hébert . About 100 years ago he too noted the natural physique of indigenous people in the countries he visited. He went back to his native land, wrote a book detailing the benefits of getting fit outdoors and stipulated the tenets of a great outdoor workout:
“[Natural Method]… exercises belonging to the ten fundamental groups: walking, running, jumping, quadrupedal movement, climbing, equilibrium (balancing), throwing, lifting, defending and swimming”.
Additionally, “A training session consists, then, of exercises in an outdoor environment – a course of greater or lesser distance (a few hundred meters to several kilometers), during which, one walks, one runs, one jumps, one progresses quadrupedally, one climbs, one walks in unstable balance, one raises and one carries, one throws, one fights and one swims.”
In Jamaica this would be soooo easy. Tri-athletes please be quiet! This post is for people who have forgotten how much fun you can have outdoors and those who think you can only get a good workout in a gym.
You can get a good workout just around your house, balancing on a fence or wall, cleaning while carrying a good-sized sandbag tied around your waist, hopping up a driveway, shadow boxing… you name it, you can do it.
Take a look at this man working his heart out in the great outdoors people.
